Voices of Mysticism I [Voces de la mística I ]
The search for the transcendental has been a constant throughout history, in all ages and cultures. Indeed, mystical experience goes beyond any denominational or conceptual boundaries. Today, it is the subject of study by the most diverse disciplines, from theology to brain science, taking in anthropology and aesthetics. As stated by the renowned theologian, Juan José Tamayo, "new research shatters the beatified and elusive image of the mystics, to show their politically incorrect, religiously subversive and theologically creative character".
This anthology is an example of this search. The thirty-three texts included are an enriched selection from the columns published by Javier Melloni over the last decade in the journal of literature and opinion, El Ciervo. They include, in chronological order, examples ranging from the classic Tao Te Ching, attributed Lao Tzu, to the controversial Carlos Castaneda, with others by Plotinus, Ibn Arabi, San Juan de la Cruz and Simone Weil.
